Digitalization in teaching

RUB teaching staff develop and use digitally supported teaching and learning scenarios to impart digital skills and exploit the potential of digitalization in teaching.

Students should be optimally prepared for life and work in a digitalized and internationally connected world.

The rapid development of AI applications and digital tools for teachers and students opens up new opportunities and solutions, for example to make teaching and learning processes more flexible in terms of time, more family-friendly and more inclusive, to reduce administrative hurdles and to support internationalization through digitally supported formats across national borders.

RUB's digital strategy formulates measures in the area of teaching and learning.

Support for lecturers

RUB encourages lecturers to try out new forms and formats of digital teaching and, after successful initial implementation, to anchor them permanently in degree programs. However, teaching with digital technologies also requires extensive support for lecturers.

Numerous programs, services and tools are available to them so that they can accompany their seminars and lectures digitally and design their teaching and learning scenarios flexibly, inclusively and independently of time and place.

• The eLearning department of the Centre for Academic Didactics (ZfW) supports institutions responsible for degree programmes in the implementation of e-learning projects, while tutors from the eTeam Digitalization in the eLearning department of the Centre for Academic Didactics (ZfW) advise lecturers on finding, setting up and effectively using the right online offering for their requirements.
• The ZFW also provides support and information on inclusive didactics and digital accessibility, while the Contact Point for Accessible Examinations (KobaP) provides information on the implementation of compensation for disadvantages
• RUBoffers training and advice on numerous aspects of digitalization. These offers are bundled in the service portal for employees.
• Ruhr-Universität Bochum is developing its own services in line with the rapid developments in digitalization.
• Competent contact persons are available to help with legal issues relating to digitalization, such as copyright law. They actively provide information on innovations and interesting facts about digitalization at our university.
• OpenRUB is the platform for freely accessible and open teaching and learning materials for all departments at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Lecturers can use freely accessible teaching materials and make teaching materials they have developed available to others.
