Explore possibilities
How can AI be used for the benefit of people? What tasks can it do for us, and how can acceptance be increased? What risks does it pose? How can it be better trained for autonomous driving, for example? Research teams at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) are working on these and many other questions.
Prof. Dr. Uta Wilkens, Project Manager HUMAINE
HUMAINE is the competence center of the Metropole Ruhr for the working world of the future with artificial intelligence.
How is digitalization affecting society? What opportunities and risks does it bring? How can we make good use of its possibilities? Researchers at Ruhr University Bochum are working on questions like these.
These institutions are researching digitalization:
CASA is the center for pioneering cybersecurity research at Ruhr University Bochum. CASA strengthens the resilience of the digital society through an innovative and interdisciplinary research program.
At Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (HGI), 200 researchers bundle their competencies in interdisciplinary work groups. At one of the largest and most renowned university institutes for IT security in Europe, students and researchers pursue fundamental research in the fields of cryptography, security for the Internet of Things, usability and data protection. The HGI thus brings together academic study, top-level research, and practical application.
The interdisciplinary Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security (RC Trust) of the University Alliance Ruhr bundles top-level research on reliable and responsible artificial intelligence and investigates secure and robust IT systems that remain reliable even when faced with new data, disruptions, or targeted attacks.
Located in close vicinity to the RUB campus, the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) researches into the social, political and economic changes caused by digitalization. The CAIS then shares the results of its research with other academic institutions and via transfer with the society.
Data protection and security are two crucial issues associated with digitalization. The Institute for Intellectual Property, Data Protection, and Information Technology (IGEDI, German website) studies the legal aspects.
