STAR – STrategic Active Recruitment

STar is RUB's program for ad personam appointments of excellent candidates (successor to the Open Field Program).

Every faculty at Ruhr University Bochum has the opportunity to strengthen its research profile through excellent ad personam recruitment. This enables the faculties to offer outstanding researchers and junior staff who have acquired selected third-party funding of particular quality the prospect of a permanent professorship.

The individuals must have five years of third-party funding that has been competitively acquired. The faculty must define a vacant professorship as a follow-up position; a temporary bridging phase is possible. The procedure is analogous to the individual release of a professorship.

Which third-party funding can qualify for a STar professorship?

  • Starting, Consolidator and Advanced Grants from the European Research Council (ERC)
  • Emmy Noether Groups of the DFG
  • Heisenberg Professorships of the German Research Foundation (DFG), if further evidence of excellence is available
  • NRW return program, BMBF junior research groups, renowned junior research group programs of non-university research institutions (Fraunhofer Attract, MPI group leadership, Helmholtz junior research groups)

A professorship in STar can be tailored specifically to the researcher's specialist focus and made permanent in the faculty.
