Digitalisation of studies

By providing online services and technical solutions, RUB has significantly facilitated organisational tasks for students – thus enabling them to focus on their studies.

Study guidance online

Biology, German language and literature studies, or management and economics? Prospective students who have not yet made their final choice have the option of clicking through the RUB Checks to learn more about their selected degree courses. By completing the self-tests on Studiport, prospective students can verify their prior knowledge. The RUB Bridge enables prospective students to broaden their knowledge and check their language proficiency, thus ultimately helping them get started in their chosen degree course.

Easy enrolment

Before they can take up their degree course, prospective students have to complete many organisational tasks. By providing the option of online application and enrolment, RUB helps them get started.

Comfortable cash transfer

Our transfer tool facilitates the cash transfer of the tuition fee. It automatically shows the necessary transfer data and itemises all expanses included in the fee: It lists the individual costs for the semester ticket and for the student parliament (Allgemeiner Studierenden-Ausschuss – AStA) as well as credit and eventual outstanding sums.

Clear organisation

The university calendar of RUB is available online. All faculties provide digital information on their seminars and lectures. To those students can apply via the Internet. Also, certificates and a transcript of records are on hand in a digital version. Thereby, students keep track of their performance independent of where they are and when they want to check their grades.

Cashless payments

The student ID at RUB has a lot to offer: with the RUBCard, students can use public transport across NRW and take advantage of numerous services on the campus and at home – cashless payments in the Mensa and the cafeterias, accessing credits and certificates of enrolment, or enrolling in courses and seminars.

Free software

Word, Excel, and Outlook – RUB lets its students download Microsoft Office 365 for free.

Practical app

What’s on the Mensa menu? Does the university library have the book I need? From up-to-the-minute course catalogue, via news, to the campus map – the app provides all relevant information directly on the Smartphone or tablet.

Web space for projects

RUB IT.Services provides projects and student initiatives with one gigabyte web space free of charge. It is a simple way for you to store data and share them with others. Students who wish to create a WordPress for their projects are welcome to submit a request for their own blog to IT.Services. With a little bit IT expertise, ideas thus find their way to the World Wide Web quickly and seamlessly.

Free cloud

In order to collaborate on papers or to store learning materials, RUB students and members of staff are given 30 gigabyte storage space – completely free of charge. The name of the cloud, which is financed and maintained by NRW universities, is Sciebo. RUB supports the digital collaboration financially and supplies its students with storage space that is maintained in accordance with the German data protection regulations.

Learning platform

Videos, educational games, and well-structured learning materials: the learning platform Moodle rounds off lectures and seminars. Moodle enables students to prepare for their respective course and to discuss what they’ve learned with their fellow students and with their lecturers and tutors.

Reading online

In order to remain up-to-date on current research, RUB students make use of the online archives of many specialist journals. Sorted by subject, papers, magazines and publications can be viewed on the university library website; some of them are even available for download.
