Open Access

Open Access refers to the free and unrestricted access to re-usable scientific publications on the internet.

By signing the Berlin Declaration, Ruhr University Bochum has officially endorsed the calls for open access to scientific publications in the field of science policy. On 6 March 2013, the Rectorate of Ruhr University Bochum passed a resolution in support of Open Access, which has been incorporated in the Ruhr University Bochum’s Open Science Policy of 1 June 2022. Ruhr University Bochum recommends that its researchers publish their research results according to Open Access principles and encourages them to submit their published, peer-reviewed articles to an open-access document server (provided that this is within the legal framework).

The University Library provides advice on this issue. It manages the Ruhr University’s publication fund, provides publication platforms and operates the Ruhr University’s document repository.

DFG grants for the Publication Fund at Ruhr University Bochum

For the years 2022 to 2024, Ruhr University Bochum has once again successfully obtained funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) for Open Access publications. RUB researchers can apply for funds from the RUB Publication Fund, which was first established in 2014 with funding from the DFG, if they publish in journals whose articles are freely available immediately after publication.
