Regional Networks – Ruhr

University Alliance Ruhr is one of the largest and most powerful scientific clusters in Germany.

University Alliance Ruhr

As a strategic union between Ruhr University, TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen, University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) offers researchers a wealth of collaboration and networking opportunities since 2007. More than 110,000 students benefit from the multitude of degree programmes – including those at the neighbouring universities.

Approx. 14,000 researchers work at UA Ruhr. Until today, more than 100 cooperations have been established in research, education and administration, which in turn gave birth to a culture of collaboration with diverse individual and structural alliances. The main cross-university and cross-disciplinary research areas are as follows:

  • Solvation Science (Cluster of Excellence Ruhr Explores Solvation – RESOLV)
  • Materials Chain
  • Metropolitan Research
  • Energy – System – Transformation
  • Empirical Economic Research

Following the success of the RUB Research School, UA Ruhr has built the Research Academy Ruhr as a platform for joint perspectives and programmes for promoting early career researchers. It prepares them for a career in research, industry and society, supports existing research project networks within UA Ruhr, and facilitates the initialisation of new joint projects.

With its Liaison Offices in New York and Moscow, the University Alliance builds international bridges.
