Mark 51°7

In collaboration with its partners, RUB will be promoting the transfer among science, industry and society on former Opel premises and today’s Mark 51°7 technology campus, where new research buildings are currently under construction.

On the Mark 51°7 premises, a Centre for Science, Technology and Start-ups will be established in the upcoming years. In its capacity as the powerhouse behind the science hub Bochum, RUB is in charge of the project. By collaborating with innovative enterprises and third-party research institutions, the university is setting up an exchange space for research and industry on the former Opel premises.

RUB has been renting half of the so-called O-Werk facilities, the former Opel admin building, since spring 2018. There, additional space is being created for the transfer between university and industry outside the campus. It will be populated by numerous research buildings that have already been or are about to be approved.

The following RUB transfer and research institutions will find a new home on the premises:

  • Centre for Engineering of Smart Product Service Systems (ZESS), analysis and development of novel engineering approaches for industrial applications
  • Zentrum für Theoretische und Integrative Neuro- und Kognitionswissenschaft (THINK)
  • Centrum für Entrepreneurship, Innovation und Transformation (CEIT), services for research, education and practice provided by the Faculty of Management and Economics
  • Akademie der RUB, career training and further education for alumni and third parties
  • Zentrum für angewandte Pastoralforschung (ZAP), research into sustainable and innovative developments of the church
  • MakerSpace/FabricationLaboratory (Fab Lab), practice-based education, support of spin-offs and assistance for young start-ups

Additional research buildings are planned, mainly in the field of IT security.
