Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) is not only one of Germany’s leading research universities, but also a dynamic center of learning with strong national and international connections. Through numerous national and international partnerships, RUB enables its students to gain valuable teaching experience, preparing them optimally for a global career and the challenges of the future.
First and foremost is the UA Ruhr. RUB students are automatically “small” secondary students at TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen. As part of RuhrCampus3, students can attend courses at both partners and thus benefit from the diversity of the German university landscape. This networking enables students to get to know different teaching methods and develop their academic skills in a broader, national context.
The RUB Centre for City Futures (CCF) connects urban society and science and networks scientists, students, civil society actors, administration, business and culture in order to jointly identify social challenges, develop innovative solutions and successfully put them into practice.
Under the name “International Academy for German Engineering and Science” (IAGES), Ruhr University Bochum, together with TU Dortmund University, the University of Duisburg-Essen and Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and Arts, will offer four English-language continuing education courses on the energy transition. The aim of this cooperation is to attract and qualify international students in order to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in the region in science and industry for the challenges of a climate-neutral future.
It is particularly noteworthy that RUB is part of the European University Alliance UNIC – European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition. This is an alliance of ten universities dedicated to promoting student mobility, joint innovative teaching and new perspectives in research and transfer. As part of the UNIC community, students can take part in courses offered by the 10 UNIC partners as part of exchange programs, internships, open courses, joint degree programs or virtual exchange programs, and learn and network together throughout Europe.
Ruhr University Bochum is the first and only German university to be a member of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN). This world-leading university and research network brings together 23 comprehensive universities on six continents to jointly promote research and teaching on important global challenges with a focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
RUB is particularly involved in the European University Association, e.g. through its formative participation in the Learning & Teaching Initiative with the Thematic Peer Groups or the Learning & Teaching Forum or the STAFFDEV project.
Studying abroad
Through exchange programs such as Erasmus+ or bilateral agreements, students can also spend one or more semesters abroad at other partner universities and receive credit for their studies. These experiences enable them not only to improve their language skills, but also to get to know new cultural perspectives and develop academically in an international environment.
Joint and double degrees
In addition, RUB offers numerous joint and double degree programs in which students can simultaneously obtain a degree at RUB and at a partner university abroad. These programs are particularly attractive for students who wish to pursue an international career and strengthen their qualifications through dual expertise.
International teaching and research cooperation
RUB also promotes the mobility of teaching staff through guest lectureships and joint research projects. These initiatives help students to benefit from the expertise of international academics who enrich courses through intercultural and interdisciplinary approaches.
