Teaching

As a university with a strong research profile, Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) focuses on research-based teaching. In doing so, it addresses different development paths for students: into research, into practice, into disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields of work.

Our Future, our Goals

Diversity, inclusion and sustainability characterize teaching at RUB. As the largest campus university in Germany, it promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and research-oriented learning and works closely with its neighbors in the University Alliance Ruhr.

Focus on Students

At RUB, the focus is on students as active creators of their learning. They are empowered to learn, research and shape their own learning at a high academic level.

Investment in Teaching

In order to continuously increase its quality and innovative strength, RUB invests over 1 million euros annually in internal funding programs and also very successfully raises large amounts of external funding.

Networking from local to global

RUB has a strong network of contacts both nationally and internationally. Numerous partnerships provide students with international teaching experience and prepare them for global careers.

Support Structures

Good teaching is not created in the seminar room alone. At Ruhr University Bochum, it is supported by a broad, closely interlinked network of support structures that accompany students and lecturers throughout the entire course of study and teaching. The offers contribute to different, complementary goals:

They promote equal opportunities and inclusion,
strengthen subject-specific and interdisciplinary skills,
support innovative teaching and examination formats,
ensure the quality and further development of teaching and
enable international and digital teaching and learning settings.

Support structures: Target groups and topics

Depending on the target group and requirements, the support structures address different thematic focuses:

from individual academic support
to didactic and methodological guidance
to infrastructure and strategic services.

Together, they create the conditions that enable students to shape their academic journey successfully, independently, and with a focus on skills. They also allow teachers to continuously refine their teaching methods and implement them in innovative ways.
