Open Science

Ruhr University Bochum advocates open access to science and academia. By pledging to remove financial, technical or legal obstacles wherever possible, the university demonstrates its commitment to Open Science.

Open Science encompasses a bundle of measures and practices that aim to make scientific findings and data openly accessible, reusable and verifiable. Scientific exchange and cooperation are to be promoted, both within the scientific community and with third parties. Furthermore, knowledge acquisition and knowledge communication are to be made accessible beyond the scientific community. Open Science marks a cultural shift in science and academia and affects the core responsibilities of research, teaching and transfer (cf. UNESCO Recommendations on Open Science).

This is why Ruhr University Bochum adopted a university-wide Open Science-Policy in June 2022.

Open Science Working Group

The Open Science Working Group is a network of stakeholders at Ruhr University Bochum who have already been exploring Open Science in depth from a variety of perspectives (Open Access, Open Data, Open Educational Resources and others) and who provide information and advice on this issue. The working group organises the Open Science Week at Ruhr University Bochum once a year, with workshops, panel discussions and exchanges on all aspects of Open Science.

The working group seeks to raise both public awareness and relevance of Open Science at our university. This includes developing the issue further and bringing it to life.

The working group is therefore also open to other interested parties. Everyone is welcome to contribute with activities, suggestions and ideas.
