About us

It is the networking between people and their know-how that makes up Ruhr University. Like no other, Ruhr-University stands for change – of the region, but also of the people who develop their talents and make their way here.

Built to change

Built to change: That is the attitude of the Ruhr University Bochum, which is expressed in its new claim. Since 1965 it has been the driving force behind the transformation from a mining district to a knowledge region. The motto: Education for all!

Located in the heart of Europe in the dynamic metropolitan region of the Ruhrgebiet, Ruhr University with its 21 faculties is home to more than 40,000 students and driving force of social change.

Diversity has shaped RUB as a reform university from day one. We believe that the diversity of the people who work, study, research and teach here is our great strength. Everyone at the university should be able to foster their abilities and talents with their different cultural and biographical backgrounds.

Hand mit Erde und Pflanzen

Ruhr University contributes to the transition to a sustainable future. We aim to work together as a university community towards a sustainable RUB 2030 – in administration, operations and construction, as well as in research, transfer and teaching.

A powerful research hub is where Ruhr University's comprehensive networks are born: local, regional, international.

Already in schools, Ruhr University accompanies young talents who help shape and advance social change on their way. It continues this support throughout their careers with facilities, programmes and projects.

At the RUB, cutting-edge research at an international level is not only incorporated into courses that are committed to the principle of research-based learning right from the start. Equally important is the transfer of knowledge and findings into industry and the public, as well as the strengthening of the entrepreneurial spirit of students.

As a university with a strong research profile, RUB focuses on research-oriented teaching. In the process, it addresses different development avenues for students: in research, in praxis, and in disciplinary and interdisciplinary work spheres.

Digitalisation has been transforming science and opening up new avenues for researching and teaching. Digital technologies render research, education, study, and administration more flexible, structured and simple.

Here, international students, teachers and researchers can find important information about their stay in Bochum. Students and staff will find everything about their opportunities for international mobility and cooperation, and we provide extensive information about the international profile and the internationalisation activities for the university.
