Making diversity visible, combating discrimination and promoting talent in a targeted manner are the goals pursued by Professor Isolde Karle with the newly created Vice Rectorate for Diversity, Inclusion and Talent Development since 2021. Its function is to bundle the numerous diversity topics, projects and contacts, to improve networking and to develop an overall strategy.
Diversity is the Ruhr-Universität’s greatest strength. Without it, RUB would not have grown, Bochum would not have evolved into a science hub and RUB would not produce excellent teaching and research. A timeline shows what our university has already achieved in terms of diversity.
On 28 October 2021, Professor Isolde Karle was elected as the first Vice Rector for Diversity, Inclusion and Talent Development. Under her tenure, RUB will place an even stronger focus on diversity and will coordinate and maintain projects and institutions that have existed ever since the university was established.
The Vice rectorate uses the knowledge of many experts who work and research on campus on various topics such as equality, inclusion, talent and racism and who contribute their experience, ideas and competencies to a "Diversity Think Tank" in order to further develop the field of diversity.
With the Diversity Charter, RUB has committed to expressing a diversity of academic discourses and ideological perspectives. It views this diversity as an asset to the university and its academic community. RUB signed the Charter in 2013.
As a community of students, academics and staff, RUB is aware of its role in society and the responsibility this entails.
Consequently, RUB has adopted a compliance policy setting out basic codes of conduct that should guide the actions of its members and staff.
